I’d like to introduce you to The Luger Foundation. We are a non-profit organization that has a mission to provide financial support and resources to the families that have incurred substantial medical debt due to premature birth, extended stays within the neonatal intensive care unit, or complications during pregnancy. As we share within our story my father had help to pay for outstanding debt, while experiencing financial hardship, for my birth and complications with my mother. This was an a gift. This was an unexpected surprise, and was freeing for a young family who was just starting out, and would have had a challenging time paying down thousands of dollars in medical debt.

Every day can be a gift. Look at how fortunate I was. I had the fantastic support by the medical professionals cared for me in those first 64 days of life in the NICU at St. Paul Ramsey Hospital.

The Luger Foundation is a simple way to “pay it forward.” We’d like help those that experience financial hardship. I’ve heard of stories, and have discussed with others how they have had birth complications, premature birth with newborns needing a great deal of medical care. I have recently heard of a story where a family gave birth to twins. These twins where born early and were at risk. After time in the NICU, the new parents had lost one of the babies and the other had spent weeks in the NICU. I heard that after the healthy baby was stable and could to go home, the family was still greiving over the loss of the their newborn, they began receiving bills from the hospital & specialists. This young family had health insurance, but still had approximatly thirty-thousand dollars in medical bills.

Our goal is simple. We want families in situations like these, to focus on what matters. Let’s repeat that. Focus on what matters. The last thing we should be worrying about is the cost, or debt we’ll have to pay during a challenging time.

Thanks for your support of The Luger Foundation, and our mission. Together we can help those in need, and allow them to focus on what matters.
